VistaPrint
There is an online printing service that will print yard signs, bumper stickers, or car magnets using our artwork. Their prices are very good and it is very convenient. If you would like to use their service rather than having signs printed yourself, just click HERE.
Push Cards
Push cards are sized so that you can print four cards on a single 8.5x11 sheet of paper (usually a 32-pound or heavier weight paper, but if you want a very large number of them, you might use cheaper paper to save money). We designed a front and back side for the push cards; but you can print just the front side and leave the back side blank if you want to further reduce the cost of printing. With a state the size of Texas, it is more important to get as many of these distributed as possible than that they be gorgeous. People can go to our website for more detail, if they like. Your printer (or you) can print these cards "4-up" and cut them, making four cards for each sheet of paper. Use them to hand out anywhere, especially as we get close to the May 29th primaries, and at conventions and rallies. You can hand them to people as they are going to the grocery store or to the polls; but you must remain far enough away from the polling place to avoid violating election rules (100 feet, usually). There may be a marker indicating the minimum distance from the polls. Early voting starts May 14th, so please get as many of these passed out to as many people as possible quickly.
File Types
Most print shops will accept .pdf files. Most graphics programs will accept .bmp files and .jpg files. You might notice the same documents (i.e.: push cards) in multiple formats. That is so that you can download whichever is most convenient for you.
Flyers
Flyers are full-size sheets of paper with a bit more detail on them than the push cards. They are good to hand out at meetings. Be sure to encourage everyone to visit www.AlLeeTX.com to learn more and to watch at least some our videos. We will be posting some nice short videos that they might find interesting. Flyers can be printed on any paper; but they look best on 32-pound white paper that you can get at Office Max, or other office supply stores.
Small Signs
Small signs are sized to print on standard 8.5x11 paper that you normally use in your home computer printer. They can be used as small hand signs if you staple them to a small stick, such as the paint stirrer paddles that you can get from Lowes or Home Depot (you should print on card-weight paper for this usage). They can be taped on the inside of your car or home windows or tacked to a wall or bulletin board.
Yard Signs
The various yard signs and posters are named to indicate their dimensions in inches. Most printers should be able to print the 28-inch width signs, which work well for yard signs stapled to stakes. Most printers will have heavy paper in large sizes designed for printing yard signs. Black & White printing, or two-color printing is often cheaper than color if you have budget constraints. Color signs do get more attention. See below for tips for making good yard signs. The larger sizes are good for rallies or other events where you might affix the poster to a long stick so you can hold it up.
Making Yard Signs
To make a good yard sign, use a wooden stake (available at low cost from Lowes, Home Depot, or other supply stores) and two paper signs. they will be attached back-to-back with the stake in between. DO NOT staple the signs to the stake until after the stake is in the ground. Pounding the stake into the ground with the paper stapled to it will rip the staples out of the paper. You can add extra strength to the sign by stapling a wire coat hanger to the stake to reinforce the paper signs. Better yet, staple a coat hanger to each side of the stake.
Hold the stake so that you are also holding the wire hangers that are stapled to it in place as you pound the stake into the ground with a mallet. Then, staple the signs to either side of the stake and staple or tape the paper signs together at all corners so they reinforce one another.
File Types
You will notice that there are several types of files here that you can download. Files with names ending in ".pdf" are usually what most printshops prefer. You can also print them on your home computer. Files ending in ".bmp" or ".jpg" are image files. Most print shops can also print them and you may be able to print them on your home computer, too. Further, these image files can be easily scaled up or down to different sizes, so if your printshop prefers a different size paper, they should be able to make the adjustment easily using these file.
QR Code
The black on white square with the odd-looking pattern is a QR Code. Any viewer with a smart phone can point the phone's camera to that code and have it read the code, which will bring up our campaign website. You need a QR Reader in your phone to do this; but they are a free download.
